Cairo: An Egyptian court confirmed on Thursday the death sentence on a supporter of the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group over murder charges, state-run MENA news agency reported.

Mahmoud Hassan Ramadan, who has been sentenced to death, was seen -- as posted in a video -- stabbing a boy and then throwing him off a rooftop during clashes in Alexandria, following the removal of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013. Hassan was also seen in the video waving the black flag of the Al Qaeda.

The Cassation Court rejected the appeals of all the defendants over the May 2014 Alexandria Criminal Court verdict, in which the court sentenced 13 of the defendants to 25 years in prison and 46 others to jail terms of seven to 15 years.

On Monday, another Egyptian court passed the death sentence against 183 Brotherhood supporters charged with killing 11 police officers and two civilians following the removal of Morsi, but the defendants appealed.

It is the first time the country has passed death sentences against hundreds of Brotherhood members and Islamists supporting Morsi, Xinhua news agency reported.

The defendants were charged with: killing four people, illegal assembly, robbery, burning and destroying public buildings, assaulting police institutions, weapons possession in addition to attacking peaceful protesters and terrorizing civilians.

They also pushed out anti-Morsi supporters from the top of high buildings.

Nearly 1,000 Morsi loyalists were killed in a security crackdown and thousands were arrested.
