Earthquake of 6.1 Magnitude rocks New Zealand, epicenter near Wellington

New Zealand Earthquake: Tremor of 6.1 Magnitude was felt in New Zealand with epicenter near Wellington on Wednesday.

According to GNS Science (GeoNet), A magnitude 6.0 earthquake occurred 50 km north-west of Paraparaumu, New Zealand at Wed Feb 15 2023 7:38 PM (NZDT). The quake was 57.4 kilometres deep and the intensity was strong close to the quake.  The quake may have been felt in Paraparaumu, Levin, Porirua, French Pass, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Wellington, Whanganui, Waverley, Palmerston North, Feilding, Picton, Eketahuna, Masterton, Martinborough, Hunterville, Hawera, Blenheim, Seddon, Nelson, Dannevirke, Pongaroa, Stratford, Opunake, Taihape, Castlepoint, Motueka, Ohakune and surrounding localities.

Turkey, Syria disaster

The tremor comes days after Turkey and Syria witnessed the deadliest earthquake in generations in which thousands of people died. Hundreds of buildings collapsed in the powerful February 6 earthquakes as rescuers found more bodies on Wednesday. The death toll from the magnitude 7. 8 and 7. 5 quakes that struck nine hours apart in southeastern Turkey and northern Syria rose to 33,185 and was certain to increase as search teams find more bodies.

5.7 magnitude earthquake rattles Romania

Yesterday (February 14), An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.7 rattled Romania on Tuesday, the second tremor of similar magnitude to shake the country in 24 hours. No serious damage was reported in either case. The quake on Tuesday occurred at 3.16 pm in Romania's southwest Gorj County at a depth of approximately 40 km (25 miles), data from Romania's National Earth Physics Institute shows.
