Sydney: An earthquake of 7.2 magnitude jolted Papua New Guinea on Thursday, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The area that was jotled is 149 km southwest of the town of Panguna on Bougainville Island.
The epicentre, with a depth of 22.1 km, was initially determined to be at 7.3 degrees latitude south and 154.5 degrees longitude east, Xinhua news agency reported.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre has not issued any tsunami warning yet.
There are no reports of casualties or property loss so far.
