US President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he had authorised precision airstrikes targeting a senior ISIS attack planner and his associates in Somalia. According to Trump, the targeted individuals were responsible for orchestrating attacks against the United States and its allies.
Details of the airstrikes
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Trump provided details of the operation, stating, "This morning, I ordered precision military air strikes on the Senior ISIS Attack Planner and other terrorists he recruited and led in Somalia. These killers, who we found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and our Allies. The strikes destroyed the caves they live in and killed many terrorists without, in any way, harming civilians."
Long-awaited operation
Trump emphasised that the operation was aimed at a high-priority target who had been on the US military’s radar for years. Criticizing the previous administration for inaction, he stated, "Our Military has targeted this ISIS Attack Planner for years, but Biden and his cronies wouldn’t act quickly enough to get the job done. I did!"
Message to terror groups
Delivering a stern warning to ISIS and other terrorist organisations, Trump declared, "WE WILL FIND YOU, AND WE WILL KILL YOU!"
Impact and casualties
While the exact number of casualties and the precise location of the strikes were not disclosed, Trump underscored the significance of the mission, highlighting it as a decisive action against threats to national and allied security.
