New Delhi: The Citarum River Basin in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia covers an area of approximately 13,000 square kilometers, coming into contact with a population of 9 million people. It is so polluted and filled with trash, you can't even see the water.
On December 5, 2008, the Asian Development Bank approved a $500 million loan for cleaning up the river, calling it the world's dirtiest.
It is the third longest river in Java after Bengawan Solo and Brantas.
