979 new COVID-19 cases and 47 deaths reported in Mumbai today. The total number of cases now at 1,28,550 including 1,01,861 recovered/discharged cases, 19,354 active cases and 7,035 deaths. 

7,908 COVID-19 cases, 6,940 cases of discharge and 104 deaths reported in Karnataka today. Total cases in the state stand at 2,11,108, including 1,28,182 cases of discharge and 3,717 deaths. 

1,278 fresh COVID-19 cases reported in the state. The total number of positive cases in the state is now 58,692 including 13,949 active cases, 41,963 recovered cases and 846 deaths. 

796 new COVID-19 cases and 16 deaths reported in Madhya Pradesh today. Total number of cases now at 43,414 including 9,928 active cases, 32,405 recoveries and 1,081 deaths. 

313 new COVID-19 cases reported in Uttarakhand today taking the total number of cases to 11,615. There are 3,924 active cases and the death toll stands at 147. 

12,608 new COVID-19 cases, 10,484 recoveries, and 364 deaths reported in Maharashtra today, taking the total number of cases in the state to 5,72,734, including 1,51,555 active cases, 4,01,442 cured cases and 19,427 deaths till date. 

1,087 COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths reported in Gujarat in the last 24 hours. The state tally rises to 76,569 including 14,299 active cases 59,522 cured/discharged and 2,448 deaths. 

Punjab recorded 1,077 new COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths today, taking the total number of cases to 29,013 including 9,954 active cases and 731 deaths. 

Kerala reported 1,569 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking active cases to 14,094. A total of 26,996 patients have recovered from the disease in the state so far. 

540 new COVID-19 cases reported from Jammu and Kashmir today; 119 from Jammu division and 421 from Kashmir division, taking the total number of cases in the Union Territory to 27,489. The death toll rises to 520. 

9 new COVID-19 positive cases reported in the Dharavi area of Mumbai. The total number of cases rise to 2,658 including 2,312 discharges and 87 active cases. 

86 new COVID-19 cases and 65 recoveries reported in Manipur in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cases to 4,198 in the state. There are 1,825 active cases and 2,360 recovered cases till date. The death toll stands at 13. 

Tamil Nadu reported 5,890 new COVID-19 cases and 117 deaths today taking the total number of cases to 3,26,245 including 5,514 deaths and 53,716 active cases. 

President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the nation on the eve of Independence Day. Here are some highlights from his speech. 

• India's self-reliance means being self-sufficient without alienating or creating distance from the world. 
• Corona warriors, says they have gone much beyond their call of duty to save lives, ensure essential services.
• It was a superhuman effort on part of the govt to respond effectively in meeting the challenges due to the COVID pandemic.
• This year's I-Day celebrations will be restrained as a deadly virus has disrupted all activities, taken a huge toll.
• Difficult times won't last, don't give up working for your dreams.
• We have learnt some tough lessons in the year 2020. The invisible virus has demolished the illusion that the human being is the master of nature. I believe, it is still not too late for humanity to correct its course and live in harmony with nature. 
• Even while the world community needs to fight together against the greatest challenge before humanity, some in our neighbourhood tried to carry out their misadventure of expansion.
• Our brave soldiers laid down their lives defending our borders. Those worthy sons of Bharat Mata lived and died for national pride. The entire nation salutes the martyrs of Galwan Valley.
• Celebrations of Independence Day this year will be rather restrained. The world confronts a deadly virus that has disrupted all activities and taken a huge toll. It has altered the world we lived in before pandemic.
• The nation is indebted to doctors, nurses, and other health workers who have been continuously on the forefront of our fight against this virus. Unfortunately, many of them have lost their lives battling the pandemic. They are our national heroes. 
• August 15 fills us with the excitement of unfurling the tricolour, taking part in celebrations & listening to patriotic songs. The youth of India should feel special pride of being citizens of a free nation. 
• We are fortunate that Mahatma Gandhi became the guiding light of our freedom movement. As much a saint as a political leader, he was a phenomenon that could have happened only in India.

The total COVID-19 positive cases in Himachal Pradesh stands at 3,852 including 1,325 active cases, 2,474 recoveries, and 17 deaths.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday informed that he had recovered from coronavirus. 

Domestic equity benchmark Sensex plunged 433 points on Friday, tracking heavy losses in banking, consumption and auto stocks amid a selloff in global markets. Tanking 663 points from the day’s high, the 30-share BSE index settled 433.15 points or 1.13 per cent lower at 37,877.34.

The broader NSE Nifty slumped 122.05 points or 1.08 per cent to close at 11,178.40.

Singapore reported 83 new COVID-19 infections on Friday, including four imported cases, taking the country's tally to 55,580, according to the health ministry.

Kerala is likely to witness a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the months of August and September with daily infections expected to touch between 10,000 to 20,000, State Health Minister K K Shailaja said.
