Pakistani troops violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir by resorting to unprovoked firing towards Indian positions on Tuesday, an Army official said. There have been no reports of any casualties so far.

"Pakistan initiated an unprovoked ceasefire violation (CFV) along the LoC in Macchil and Gugaldara sectors in Kupwara in the afternoon hours by firing mortars and other weapons," the official said.

A befitting response was given to the Pakistani aggression, he said.

The COVID-19 tally in Maharashtrarose to 3,91,440 on Tuesday with addition of 7,717 new cases, state Health Minister Rajesh Tope said. With 282 patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll mounted to 14,165, he said.

Former Karnataka Minister Raja Madangopal Naik has died of COVID-19 at a hospital in Kalaburagi, a health department official said on Tuesday.

COVID-19 testing will begin at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bathinda with an initial capacity of 180 tests a day, and in a months time, will be increased to 500 a day, according to a Punjab government release issued on Tuesday.

India's COVID-19 fatality rate is progressively falling from 3.33 per cent on June 18 to 2.25 per cent as on date, while the recovery rate increased from around 53 per cent in mid-June to more than 64 per cent, the Union health ministry said on Tuesday.

Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday reported 3,458 new COVID-19 cases taking the tally to more than 73,000, while 41 more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,497. "There are 27,934 active COVID-19 cases in the state and 44,520 patients have been discharged after treatment. The death toll due to the diseases have reached 1497," Additional Chief Secretary, Information, Awanish Kumar Awasthi told reporters said.

An additional 6.7 million children under the age of five across the world could suffer from wasting this year due to the socio-economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the UNICEF warned on Tuesday.

According to the UNICEF, in India, there are still around 20 million children under five years of age who are suffering from wasting.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who tested positive for coronavirus, on Tuesday chaired the first virtual cabinet meeting from hospital and said if the infection is detected early, then it is not incurable and is like any other cold, cough and fever.
