Beijing: China, on Monday, said that it is opposed to any country meeting the Dalai Lama “in any form” after the White House declaration that the US President Barack Obama will attend an event in Washington with the Lama.

Hong Lei, China's foreign ministry spokesman, has also called on the United States and asked them to handle the issue in a manner which may not hamper US-China relations.

The White House last week said that Obama will deliver remarks at a prayer breakfast on February 5. He will talk about the importance of upholding religious freedom.

The exiled Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama is due to attend the meeting.
