    Haryana reports 2,153 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total tally in the state to 2,02,027. A total of 1,80,647 discharged so far after recovering from the infection, death toll 2038. The active cases stands at 19,342.

    Mumbai reported 409 new COVID-19 cases, 529 recoveries/discharges, and 12 deaths today. The total cases here rise to 2,70,113, including 2,45,774 recoveries/discharges and 10,582 deaths. The active cases stand at 9807.

    Karnataka reported 1157 new COVID-19 cases, 2188 discharges and 12 deaths today. The total cases in the state rise to 8,62,804, including 8,25,141 discharges and 11,541 deaths.

    Jammu and Kashmir: 390 new COVID-19 cases reported

    390 new COVID-19 cases reported in Jammu and Kashmir today. 150 from Jammu division and 240 from the Kashmir division. Total number of cases now at 1,03,009 including 5,588 active cases, 95,824 recoveries, and 1,597 deaths.

    Maharashtra reported 2,535 new COVID-19 cases, 3,001 recoveries, and 60 deaths today. There are 84,386 active cases in the State and 16,18,380 patients have recovered so far. The death toll is at 46,034.

    PM asks seers to disseminate message of 'vocal for local'

    Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday urged seers to help spread the message of "vocal for local", an initiative to promote local products. He also unveiled a 'Statue of Peace' to mark the 151st birth celebration of Jainacharya Vijay Vallab Surishwer in Rajasthan's Pali district through video conferencing.

    Modi said that seers had played an important role in strengthening the freedom movement and asserted that it was now the time to focus on 'vocal for local' campaign.

    "I would like to request our saints and seers that wherever they go and speak, the message of 'vocal for local' should be spread by them," he said while addressing a programme through video conferencing.

    Elderly couple beaten to death in Jharkhand

    An elderly couple was beaten to death when they protested drinking of liquor in public by some people in Jharkhand's Gumla district, police said on Monday.

    The couple - Saini Gop (70) and Phulo Devi (65) - was beaten to death near Satpara Ghatta village under the jurisdiction of Gumla Nagar Police station on Sunday evening, the police said.

    Rains lash Haryana and Punjab, temperatures dip

    Many places in Haryana and Punjab received rains, causing a dip in the mercury on Monday, the Meteorological Department said. A few places, including Chandigarh, received showers on Monday morning as well.

    Among other places which received rains on Sunday are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Jalandhar, Patiala, Ludhiana, Panchkula, Ambala, Sonipat, Gurgaon, Kurukshetra, Karnal, Jind and Hisar.     

    Isolated places in Haryana were also lashed by a hailstorm. The minimum temperature in the two states dropped by a few notches after the rains, Met department officials said.

    Maha village bids emotional farewell to martyred Army jawan

    Amid slogans hailing him, hundreds of villagers and family members bid a tearful farewell to martyred Army jawan Rushikesh Jondhale as his mortal remains were consigned to flames at his native place in Maharashtra's Kolhapur district on Monday.

    The body of Jondhale (20), who was killed on Friday during cross-LoC firing by Pakistani soldiers at Gurez in Jammu and Kashmir, was brought to Pune in an Indian Air Force plane on Sunday and then taken to his native village Bahirewadi in Ajra tehsil of neighbouring Kolhapur.

    The soldier is survived by his parents and sister. On Monday morning, hundreds of residents of the Bahirewadi village took part in his final journey.

    Amid chants of 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' and 'Rushikesh Amar Rahein' by emotional villagers, the jawan's mortal remains were cremated with full military honours.
