    Punjab seeks priority allocation of COVID-19 vaccine once available

    Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure priority allocation of COVID-19 vaccine to Punjab on account of its higher mortality rate and high levels of co-morbidities in the state.

    In a letter to Modi, the CM said despite its relatively low caseload, Punjab has higher fatality rate due to coronavirus, and, therefore, it needs special attention in the allocation of the vaccine once available.

    Punjab has so far witnessed 1.55 lakh coronavirus cases and 4,905 deaths.

    Snowstorm wreaks havoc on Austria virus testing

    Several communities in the Austrian Alps have put mass coronavirus testing on hold and others were urged to do the same after a storm dumped huge amounts of snow, sending some avalanche warnings to their highest level.

    Some parts of the province of Tyrol saw 70 centimeters (27.5 inches) of snow fall overnight Friday into Saturday, and another 110 centimeters (43 inches) were expected on Sunday, Austria’s APA news agency reported.

    Gulmarg, Baltal record sub-zero temperatures

    Kashmir experienced a dry but cold weather with Baltal being recorded as the coldest place in the valley at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, officials said on Sunday. Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, they said.

    All the remaining weather stations, including Pahalgam, recorded minimum temperature above zero degree Celsius.

    Anantnag at 4.6 degrees Celsius was the warmest place in the valley on Saturday night.

    The MeT department has forecast rain over the next few days with a possibility of snow in higher reaches owing to a Western Disturbance affecting the local weather system.

    Tamil Nadu: Congress chief tests positive for coronavirus

    Tamil Nadu Congress unit President K.S. Alagiri tested positive for coronavirus on Sunday and has been admitted to a private hospital, the party said.

    In a statement issued in Chennai, the party also advised those who were in contact with Alagiri to get themselves tested.

    5 new COVID-19 cases in Andamans; tally rises to 4,747

    Andaman and Nicobar Islands COVID-19 tally rose to 4,747 as five more persons tested positive for the virus, a health department official said on Sunday.
    The death toll in the Union Territory remained at 61 as no new fatality due to the infection was reported, he said.

    Of the five fresh cases, three were detected during contact tracing, while two have travel history, he said.

    Five more persons were cured of the disease on Tuesday, taking the total number of recoveries in the archipelago to 4,616, the official said.

    Nagpur Biker dies in road accident

    A 23-year-old biker died of head injuries here in Maharashtra after his motorcycle hit a pothole and he fell on road, police said on Saturday. The accident occurred on Friday night when the deceased, Kunal Dangre, was headed towards his home, an official said.

    Dangre succumbed to head injuries in a hospital, he added. A case of accidental death has been registered.
