Mount Vesuvius A stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples, Mount Vesuvius is termed as one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It is popular for its eruptions in AD 79 when its eruption vented a cloud of stones and ash upto the height of 33km. This eruption released a hundred thousand times the thermal energy quite equivalent to the energy released at the time time of Hiroshima bombing. Approximately 16,000 people were killed in this eruption.
Nevado Del Ruiz Nevado Del Ruiz is a volcano located at the border of the Caldas and Tolima in Colombia and is held responsible for Armero tragedy. On November 13, 1985, a small eruption produced an enormous lahar that destroyed the town of Armero in Tolima causing approximately 25000 deaths. It is also recorded as the deadliest lahar in the history.
Mount Pelee An active volcano in the Lesser Antilles of the Caribbean, Mount Pelee is popular for its eruption in 1902 which killed around 30-40,000 people leaving just three survivors. It is recorded as the worst volcanic disaster of the 20th century.
