US President Bill Clinton, 78, was admitted to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington on Monday afternoon after suffering from fever. His spokesman Angel Urena confirmed in a statement that the hospitalisation was for “testing and observation” and said, “He remains in good spirits and deeply appreciates the excellent care he is receiving.”

Recent public appearances

Clinton, who served two terms as president from 1993 to 2001, has been active in public life. This summer, he addressed the Democratic National Convention in Chicago and campaigned for Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, who lost the White House before the November election.

Clinton health history

Over the years, Clinton has faced many health challenges:

  • 2004: Undergoes four bypass surgeries after prolonged chest pain and shortness of breath.
  • 2005: Undergoes surgery for a partially collapsed lung.
  • 2010: Two stents were placed in a coronary artery.
  • 2021: He was hospitalised for six days in California for an infection that spread to his bloodstream, but he recovered without complications.

After a health scare in 2010, Clinton followed a largely vegan diet and reported weight loss and improved health.

No cause for alarm

While Clinton has had serious health problems in the past, her current condition does not appear to be life-threatening. Her spokeswoman assured people that Clinton is in good health, although further details about her fever and ongoing care remain undisclosed.
