The Church of Hallgrímurk, Iceland
A Lutheran parish church, Church of Hallgrímurk is located in Reykjavík, Iceland.
Built in 1945, the Church of Hallgrimurk was designed by State Architect Guðjón Samúelsson.
While it took 38 years for the construction of the church, it was completed in 1986 and is the largest church in Iceland and the sixth tallest architectural structure in Iceland.
The crypt beneath the choir was consecrated in 1948, the steeple and wings were completed in 1974,Α] and the nave was consecrated in 1986.
Named after the Icelandic poet and clergyman Hallgrímur Pétursson, the church also houses a large pipe organ by the German organ builder Johannes Klais of Bonn.
