BBC Question Time presenter David Dimbleby missed his flagship political programme 'Question Time' for the first time in over 15 years, as he is in hospital after getting a severe kick from a bullock, whom he was trying to load on a trailer, reports The Daily Telegraph, London.
71-year-old Dimbleby was at his home in East Sussex, when the bullock reared as he was being loaded on to a trailer. Dimbleby fell unconscious as he received a cut to the head that required stiches in Eastbourne Hospital.
John Humphrys, the veteran presenter of the Radio 4 Today programme, chaired Thursday's episode of the political panel show from Weston-super Mare.
It will be the first show that the broadcaster has missed since he began hosting the political panel show in 1994, but he is expected to return next week.
A BBC spokesman said: “David was loading a bullock onto a trailer when the bullock reared, resulting in David being briefly knocked out. He also received a cut to the head that required stitches.”
The bullock does not have a name but is of the Dexter breed.
Dimbleby lives in Polegate, East Sussex with his second wife Belinda Giles, whom he married in 2000. The couple have one son and the broadcaster has three other children with his first wife Josceline Dimbleby, the cookery writer.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Dimbleby said: "I haven't missed a Question Time in over 15 years. Trust my wife's bullock to take me out. I'll be giving bullocks a wide berth in future."
The BBC spokesman said: “David is recovering well. He attended hospital yesterday, but as he received a head injury, he is staying there for observation. This is just as a precaution, which is not unusual for a patient suffering concussion, and he should return home shortly.”
“David would like to thank the staff at the hospital and he looks forward to returning to Question Time next week”.
