New Delhi: Tragic pictures of Syrian boy Aylan Kurdi, who died after drowning in the Mediterranean Sea while fleeing his home in Syrian, put the spotlight on the refugee crisis in Middle East nation.
Amid the debate on the one of the biggest refugee crisis ever, someone pointed out that Apple founder Steve Jobs was also born of a Syrian migrant.
After the pictures of Aylan gone viral on social media, Geneva-based tech entrepreneur David Galbraith pointed out that Steve Jobs was a Syrian migrant's son as well. His tweet went has got over 13,000 retweets in five days.
Walter Isaacson, author of Steve Jobs' biography also tweeted, “Galbraith's Tweet reminds us that Steve Jobs was a Syrian immigrant's child, just like those in truck & on the beach.”
Jobs, who died in 2011 after a cancer battle, was the son of a Syrian man who moved to the US to study in the 1950s.
His biological father Abdul Fattah Jandali was born in 1931 to a well-off family in Homs, Syria. The city is now infamous as the scene of some of the worst fighting in the country's ongoing civil war.
Jobs was born out of wedlock from Jandali's relationship with his partner Joanne Carole Schieble. The couple was forced to give him up for adoption to Paul and Clara Jobs.
