Kabul: A provincial judge was assassinated in a targeted killing when his car was blown off with a 'sticky' magnet bomb in Afghanistan's Jalalabad city Wednesday, police said.

Judge Mahmud-ul-Hassan was killed in the attack and his two children travelling with him in the car were wounded, police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal said, Xinhua reported.

The attack is the latest in a string of targeted killings, the police spokesman said.

"A sticky bomb attached to Judge Mahmud-ul-Hassan's car was detonated when he was travelling to office around 8:00 a.m. (local time). Two kids of Hassan aboard the vehicle were wounded," said Mashriqiwal.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Hassan served as a provincial judge in the neighbouring Laghman province, Mashriqiwal said.

The Taliban insurgent group has intensified attacks over the past couple of months after the Afghan forces took full responsibility of security in the country earlier this month following withdrawal of NATO-led international forces.
