Beijing, Dec 5 (PTI) A powerful blast caused by illegally stored chemicals hit an Internet cafe in southwest China, killing at least 7 people and injuring 37 others.
The explosion occurred at around 10:30 pm local time yesterday in a shop next to Internet cafe in downtown Kaili city in Guizhou province, reducing it to ruins, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
Six people were killed on the spot and one woman died of extensive burns at hospital.
The blast was so powerful that it also shattered windows of nearby residential buildings.
Local police said at least 45 people were in the cafe when the explosion took place.
Police have detained a man named Wu Zhanzhi for illegally possessing the chemicals besides the owner and manager of the Internet cafe.
Injured persons were rushed to the hospital. The condition of eight persons was stated to be serious.
