Islamabad: At least five persons were killed today when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a peace committee meeting in Pakistan's troubled Khyber tribal district near Afghan border.
The bomber targeted members of peace committee of Zalakhel tribesmen in Pir Mela area of remote Tirah Valley.
“At least five tribesmen were killed and seven others were wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up in an Aman (peace) committee meeting,” a security official said.
Rescue teams shifted the injured to a nearby medical center while security forces cordoned off the area.
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Taliban linked Lashkar-e-Islam militant group of Mangal Bagh is active in the area.
The security forces have targeted the Tirah area through air strikes in recent months but the militants are still active in the mountainous region.
