New Delhi: At least 18 people are feared dead in a roof collapse incident at a mosque in Droghawala, a highly congested area on the outskirts of the Lahore city.
Officials engaged in rescue and relief works said that the death toll may rise.
The incident took place on Tuesday when Zuhr prayers were being offered in a mosque near Daroghawala, an official said, adding that there were up to 30 people at the daily afternoon prayer, the official added.
He added that rescuers had started relief work with the cooperation of locals.
Locals said that the roof collapsed due to heavy rains in the city over the last one week.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to expedite relief efforts.
