Sanaa, July 15: Fourteen people, among them four children, were killed when a generator exploded in a village in Yemen, police officials said.
A total of 14 people, including eight women besides four children, were killed in the explosion late Saturday in Al-Kadam village in Mahweet province, about 150 km west of Sanaa, police officials said, adding that four people were seriously wounded and a two-storey house was destroyed.
Officials said the blast was caused as a short circuit in the generator ignited a large amount of stored fuel in a small underground room, reported Xinhua.
Yemenis widely use private generators and store large quantities of fuel in their houses to tide over frequent power outages in the impoverished Arab country.
