New Delhi: What do people, at times, prefer to live with dead bodies of their dear ones, instead of burying or cremating them?
Psychoanalysts have different reasons, but the basic underlying motif is that human beings still believe they can bring their dear ones alive even after death.
Even elephants bury their dead, but not so, some of the human beings who prefer to live with the bodies of their dear ones.
These include spouses unwilling to let go of their companions, panicked murderers, depraved lunatics, and sad lonely people who just want someone (even a corpse) to sit next to them.
Here's a compilation of 10 such weird people across the world:
1. Woman watched NASCAR for a year with dead body
Charles Zigler of Jackson, Michigan died in December 2010.
Eighteen months later he was still sitting in his armchair, watching TV.
That's because 72-year-old Linda Chase, with whom he shared a house for more than ten years, decided to keep Zigler's corpse well after he drew his final breath.
Chase was 67 when he died. In the months that followed, Linda dressed and cleaned the corpse daily.
She also used to talk to him and watched NASCAR joyously as if he was alive.
2. Vietnamese man slept with his dead wife for 5 years
55 year old, Le Van from Ha Lam, Central Quang Nam province, Vietnam molded his wife's corpse with clay and put it on his bed so he could sleep with her hugging at night.
He did this for 5 years. She died in 2003.
He said that a year and a half later he decided to dig a tunnel next to his wife's grave so he could sleep beside her away from the rain and wind.
Subsequently in November 2004 Van returned to the grave, dug up his wife's corpse and brought it home, where it remains today.
Even his son, now sleeps beside his mother.
3. Carl Tanzler
Though married with children, radiologist Carl Tanzer (aka Count Carl Von Cosel, aka Georg Karl Tänzler) fell in love with raven-haired tuberculosis patient Elena de Hoyos in April 1930.
He was convinced he had been dreaming about her for decades, and he gave her many gifts.
He tried to save her with several unorthodox methods, but she eventually died in October 1931 at age 22.
Tanzler designed and built her a crypt, and he sat by her coffin every night to talk to her.
Then he tied her body parts together with piano wire, fitted her with glass eyes, made her a wig of human hair (her own), and covered her skin with wax.
For the next seven years, he played music for her at night and slept beside her.
He was then arrested and tried.
