Islamabad: Over 1,000 people have been booked and at least 10 arrested while two senior officials were removed over the recent sectarian clashes in Pakistan that forced authorities to impose curfew and call in the army in three cities.

An FIR was registered against 400 unidentified persons under provisions of the Pakistan Penal Code and Anti-Terrorism Act for ransacking public property at Chishtian in Bahawalnagar district, 400 km from Lahore.

Another FIR under provisions of the PPC and ATA was registered in Multan, 350 km from Lahore, against 600 people.

Bahawalnagar district police chief Athar Ismail Amjad said the process of identifying the persons involved in these incidents was underway and police would soon arrest them.

Multan region police chief Amin Wains said people who disturbed the law and order in the city would not be spared.
