India has clarified that the US sanctions imposed on Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation’s entities will not affect the defence agreements signed between New Delhi and Moscow.
“New Delhi will continue the implementation of the defence agreements with Moscow on procurement of strategic defense equipment, despite the US sanctions imposed on Russian United Shipbuilding Corporation’s entities,” Indian Ambassador to Russia Pankaj Saran told Sputnik News.
Pankaj Saran further said that India will continue to cooperate with Russia as it does not believe in unilateral sanctions.
We do not believe in unilateral sanctions. We have a longest trip of cooperation with Russia and we will continue to cooperate with Russia and we will continue to implement all the agreements that we have signed with Russia," he added.
The Indian Ambassador was reacting to some media reports saying the implementation of India’s plans to purchase the S-400 missile systems and Project 11356 Admiral Grigorovich-class vessels from Russia might be hampered by the US sanctions as indian banks Indian banks will not be able to give guarantees for the contracts to Russian companies, included in US sanctions list.
