New Delhi: Pakistani President Mamnoon Hussain today said that the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) should follow the example set by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) by admitting both India and Pakistan simultaneously as members.
Hussain made these remarks after his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Tashkent.
Pakistani President expressed his apprehensions that NSG membership to India alone will disturb the military balance in the region.
"Only granting India the membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group will shift the balance of power," President Hussain was quoted as saying by The Dawn.
Pakistani President thanked his Chinese counterpart for extending support to Islamabad’s bid to join NSG.
He said that it was good to see that Chinese stand was based on the principle of non-discrimination and that it indicated the firmness of the strategic partnership between the two countries.
"There exists a strategic partnership between China and Pakistan,” he added.
