After three weeks of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Uri attacks, the National Security Advisors of the two nations spoke on Monday morning to reduce tensions along the Line of Control, Pakistani media outlets quoted Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz as saying.
According to Aziz, Pakistan's NSA Nasser Janjua and his Indian counterpart Ajit Doval talked to diffuse tension between the two countries.
"Both the officials stressed on the need to establish contact to reduce tensions along the Line of Control," said Aziz.
According to Aziz, India was escalating tensions with Pakistan at the Line of Control "to deflect the attention of the world from Kashmir issue".
He said that Pakistan wanted to bring down tensions with India.
"Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had indicated quite clearly that till the issue of Kashmir was not resolved, tensions across the border would remain."
Aziz’s words rung true when a group of militants launched fidayeen attacks at an Army camp of the 46 Rashtriya Rifles and one of the Border Security Force late on Sunday night. One soldier of the BSF has been martyred and another injured when two groups of militants indulged in firing and lobbed grenades at the two camps.
The attacks were thwarted by the alert forces which responded appropriately, leading to the militants fleeing from the scene. The gunbattle ended after over two hours and the Army took control of the situation. Combing and search operations are currently on and some articles recovered from the scene, e.g., GPS, compass, wire-cutter etc., are being probed by the technical teams.
The attack came barely three days after India conducted surgical strikes at terror launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir inflicting significant casualties. India’s action came after the attack at an Army base in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri on September 18 which saw 19 of our soldiers martyred.
