Requesting the United Nations (UN) to intervene in the Kashmir dispute, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s special envoys have informed United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) President Peter Thomson that India has closed the “doors to bilateral dialogue”.
According to a report in ‘Dawn’, the two envoys Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and Dr. Shezra Mansab Ali told the UNGA President, "India has closed all doors to bilateral dialogue, scuttled a regional summit and refused to implement United Nations Security Council resolutions at the international level."
The envoys also handed over a dossier on human rights violations in Kashmir to the UNGA President in New York.
They also briefed the UNGA president about the threat to peace and security posed by the deteriorating situation in Kashmir.
The Pakistani envoys also met with officials of the UN Department for Peacekeeping Operations who briefed them "on the continued non-cooperation by the Indian side which was hampering the mandated work of the UN mission" in Kashmir.
According to Geo TV, Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi has said that Islamabad is also considering to consult the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Kashmir.
