New Delhi: Pakistan’s National Security Advisor Lt-Gen (Retd) Nasser Janjua has publically expressed his apprehension that the US support for India’s entry into Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) is part of a ‘greater design’ that aims to contain China, prevent the resurgence of Russia and keep the Muslim world in a controlled chaos.
According to a report published in Pakistan based ‘ The Tribune’, Lt Gen Janjua stressed on the fact that the US move to aggressively push India’ case should be seen in the context of ‘global power politics trends’.
Janjua made these remarks while addressing a seminar on ‘Pakistan’s case for NSA membership’ in Islamabad.
Elaborating his viewpoint further, Lt Gen Janjua said that these global trends include objectives like ‘contain China, prevent the resurgence of Russia and keep the Muslim world in a controlled chaos’.
“So, it’s part of a greater design,” Janjua was quoted as saying by The Tribune.
Janjua warned that American support to India will have serious implications and it will only bring Pakistan and China closer.
It is for the first time that a senior Pakistani official has gone public with such apprehensions. Janjua, however, later remarked that these were his personal views.
It should be recalled that Pakistan is upset with US for aggressively supporting India bid for entry into the coveted Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG) that presently consists of 48 members.
Pakistan is also aspiring for NSG membership and its candidature has received support from its all-weather friend China which has said that all non-NPT members should be admitted if India gets entry into the exclusive club.
