New Delhi: The never seen before bromance between the two top leaders - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama is establishing the growing collaboration between India and the US and their "shared leadership" on the world stage.
If it is any indication, the United States has itself called Modi’s latest trip a celebration of remarkable transformation in US-India ties.
PM Modi has gone to the US at the invitation of President Barack Obama, who in the last year of his presidency is inviting a few world leaders with whom he shares a “close and productive working relationship”.
A senior administration official from the US said, "From addressing climate change and providing clean energy solutions, to deepening our economic and trade ties, to preserving cyberspace as an engine for growth and development, to protecting our shared spaces on the sea, in the air, and in space, the world is better when the United States and India lead together."
In 2014, when Modi flew to the US for the first time after taking office, he and Obama pledged themselves as global partners to enhance homeland security by sharing intelligence through counter-terrorism and law enforcement cooperation.
“As global partners, we are committed to enhancing our homeland security by sharing intelligence, through counter-terrorism and law-enforcement cooperation, while we jointly work to maintain freedom of navigation and lawful commerce across the seas,” they said.
The bromance between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barack Obama continued as they chatted and enjoyed light moments during the 66th Republic Day in New Delhi in 2015 for which the latter flew to India.
During the parade, Modi and Obama were seen engrossed in conversation. The US President was often seen leaning towards his right to speak to Modi.
The two leaders were often seen smiling, especially when the vibrant tableaux and performances by school children came up.
On September 23 in 2015, Modi again flew to New York, where he addressed a UN Sustainable Development Summit and participated in a Summit on peacekeeping hosted by Barack Obama.
The Prime Minister also met several world leaders and had interactions with leading investors and financial sector firms. There was a working dinner where major Fortune-500 companies were present to deliberate on investment opportunities in India.
During his third trip to the States, India and the US signed an MoU for setting up a new Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) in India that will play significant role in carrying forward frontline research on various aspects of gravitational wave astronomy.
