Moments after India managed a huge diplomatic coup when The United Nations’ 1267 Sanctions Committee placed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) leader Masood Azhar on its global terror list, Pakistan said, "will enforce the sanctions."
"Pakistan will immediately enforce the sanctions" imposed on the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) leader "as it always does with UN" cases, Pakistan's Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal said.
"This entails a ban on foreign travel, asset freeze and arms embargo," the Faisal was quoted by Dawn. The Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson further said: "Pakistan maintains that terrorism is a menace to the world, including the Indian state-sponsored terrorism against innocent Kashmiris in IOK."
This after, Syed Akbaruddin, India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations apprised the nation of the development on Wednesday evening.
India has been seeking Azhar’s listing since 2016, but the latest announcement comes after China withdrew its technical hold in the UN Security Council.
Today's resolution was backed by Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France and China.
Earlier, China's Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Geng Shuang said Beijing removed its objections after the proposal was "revised".
