Shortly after assuming office as the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump will speak to Prime Minister Narendra Modi late on Tuesday with India hoping of Indo-US ties getting even better.

Trump’s schedule, released by the White House, stated that the US President was scheduled to speak to PM Modi at 11:30 pm IST.

On Friday, the PM had congratulated Trump after his swearing in as the 45th President of the United States. In his tweet, PM Modi had also emphasised on deepening ties between India and US.

It is most likely that under Trump’s presidency, both the sides will be looking forward to deepening their diplomatic and military cooperation.

On the other hand, Nirupama Rao, a former Indian envoy to Washington, said, “India should not waste time in reaching out to Mr Trump and his team in order to establish a durable understanding that will take the relationship forwards in all sectors of relevance.”

In his inaugural address, Trump had said “buy American, hire American”, which doesn’t seem to be a good news for India. Moreover, he has been consistently denouncing job outsourcing to India, and has been making fun of the accents of Indian call centre workers.

After defeating Hillary Clinton in the knife-edge polls, Trump had termed India as a “key strategic ally” and praised PM Modi for taking the country on a fast track growth with a series of economic reforms and reforming bureaucracy, saying it was required in the US too.

Praising hard work and enterprise of the Indian community, Trump had said, "Generations of Hindus and Indian-Americans have strengthened our country".

On January 21, Trump spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican Premier Pena Nieto. On Sunday, Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and yesterday he had a telephonic conversation with the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
