A loud explosion which was heard near a cycling track at Rio Olympics was a detonation of an unattended backpack by an anti-bomb squad, a spokeswoman for the public security department said.
The officers of the squad expect the bag to be a property of a homeless man, but they had to blow it up as the protocol says so for every unattended object.
The controlled blast occurred at 1:45 p.m. (12:45 p.m. EDT), the spokeswoman said.
