A 40-year-old man lost his life while trying to save a cow from drowning in Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

As per Times of India Report, the deceased man identified as Raju Jogi, a resident of Bamhori village, saw that a cow had fallen into an overflowing canal in front of his shop.

When Jogi noticed that the people were not able to  to save the cow, he jumped into the canal himself with a rope.

"This is also a difficult time for many who stood on the canal, as Raju struggled to hold on. A few of them attempted to help him but unfortunately he was taken away by the raging waters while the cow was rescued " said police.

He succeeded in rescuing the cow, but failed to swim across gushing water, the cop added.

His body was later recovered from the canal after searching for him for around four hours.

Jogi, who ran a small tea shop near Bamhori bus stop, is survived by his wife and five children.

Also, three days before this incident, a Dalit man, identified as  Manu Bhai drowned in the Barna river after he had jumped in it to save himself from cow vigilantes.  The truck that the deceased Bhai had been driving had accidentally hit some stray cows. After which he was thrashed by a group of unidentified people and passers-by, as per media reports. To save himself he jumped into the canal.
