New Delhi: Resentment against Muslims is increasing among residents of Germany and 4 out of 10 Germans want them to stay away from their country, reveals a new study.

The study conducted by scientists Oliver Decker and Elmar Brähler which was presented in Berlin on Wednesday found that not only the resentment among Muslims is increasing in the country but there is also a greater willingness of far-right fanatics to use violence, if necessary, to uphold their beliefs.

It should be recalled that more than 1.1 million people, mainly Muslims from Syria, fled to Germany which is considered to have one of the most liberal asylum policies in the West.

The study further says that roughly four-fifths of the nearly 2,500 respondents were of the opinion that Germany should pursue a less generous refugee policy although nearly 60 percent said the asylum seekers were not at risk of any persecution in their country.

The study is being seen as favourable to the anti-Islam Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) party which has made swift gains in Germany’s regional elections mainly by harping on the need to ban mosque minarets, veils for women, and the Muslim call to prayer.
