In a setback to the protesting wrestlers, Delhi Police has said that no sufficient evidence to arrest WFI chief Brij Bhushan Singh, top sources said. The country's top wrestlers have been protesting against WFI chief since last month. On Tuesday, they also said that they will immerse their hard-earned medals in river Ganges and sit on a hunger strike "until death" at the India Gate. However, they later deferred their plan.
The wrestlers are demanding the arrest of outgoing WFI president Brij Bhushan for allegedly sexually harassing several women wrestlers, including a minor. However, top sources in the Delhi Police have said that no supportive evidence has been found to prove wrestlers' claim. "Till now, we have not found sufficient evidence to arrest Brij Bhushan Singh. Within 15 days we'll be filing our report in court. It could be in the form of chargesheet or final report. There is no supportive evidence to prove wrestlers' claim," top sources in Delhi Police said.
Meanwhile, addressing a rally the WFI chief said that he is ready to be hanged if proved guilty. Taking a swipe at wrestlers move to immerse their medals in the Ganga at Har ki Pauri in Haridwar, WFI president said, "Immersing medals won't get me hanged."
"If a single allegation against me is proven, I will hang myself. If you (wrestlers) have any evidence, present it to the Court and I am ready to accept any punishment," he added.
On Sunday, Delhi police detained Malik along with World Championships bronze winner Vinesh Phogat and another Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia and later filed FIRs against them for violation of law and order, as dramatic scenes unfolded at the protest site at Jantar Mantar.
