Ambedkar Nagar: One woman was killed during an untoward incident of celebratory firing to mark the Krishna Janmashtami celebration in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district.

The deceased woman is identified as wife of Suresh Patel, who is Station House Office (SHO) of Malipur Police Station.

According to police, the accused, also a sub-inspector, fired from his service revolver and is now absconding.

Speaking to media, Umesh Kumar Shrivastava, Superintendent of Police, Ambedkar Nagar said the bullet hit the victim from behind.

“This is unfortunate… The accused is a sub-inspector and his name is Ghanshyam. We have launched a hunt operation to nab him,” he said.

Celebratory firing is illegal at public places in India.
