Chennai, May 25 : DMK has decided to celebrate its chief M Karunanidhi's upcoming 88th birthday, so as to infuse energy among the crestfallen cadres and help them overcome the "shock" of party's debacle in the assembly polls.
"Days ahead of party chief's (Karunanidhi) birthday, a win that should have been ours by virtue of our performance eluded us even as it went to the others unexpectedly. Even they would not have expected it," party General Secretary K Anbazhagan rued.
Urging the party workers to celebrate the 87-year-old DMK patriarch's birthday on June 3 in grand style, he said the poll verdict had come as a "shock" to people and one which is "not liked by the good-willed" and the "unbiased."
Quoting DMK founder C N Annadurai, he said the "DMK does'nt go berserk over a win and sulk during loss."
Anbazhagan said Karunanidhi had strived for social justice and therefore celebrating his birthday would not mean 'singing paeans' to him.
"To prove that DMK, which has continued to work for the oppressed Dravidian people, has not done away with its efforts to continue working for the Tamil people, we are duty-bound to celebrate the birthday of our leader."
"I request all the supporters to celebrate his birthday in every nook and corner," he said.
The DMK, presently is not even the principal Opposition party with fledgling DMDK winning more seats in the April 13 polls.
Adding to the woes of Karunanidhi, Rajya Sabha MP and his daughter Kanimozhi has been jailed in-connection with the 2G spectrum allocation scam. PTI
