New Delhi, Apr 3 : Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today announced an award of Rs two crore for Indian cricket team captain M S Dhoni and Rs one crore each for four Delhi players after their historic victory in the World Cup.
"The Chief Minister has decided to honour the Indian captain M S Dhoni by awarding him Rs 2 crore and also decided to give one crore each to Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Ashish Nehra for winning the coveted World Cup after 28 years," a Delhi government official said.In Ranchi, Jharkhand chief minister Arjun Munda announced donation of 5 acres land to Dhoni to set a cricket academy and a school.
In Dehradun, Uttarakhand government decided to bestow Uttarakhand Ratna award to Dhoni. The state government will build a stadium in Dehradun in Dhoni's name and has offered houses in Mussorie to Dhoni and Sachin Tendulkar.
In Ahmedabad. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi announced Eklavya award for two players from the state Munaf Patel and Yusuf Pathan.In Bangalore, Karnataka chief minister B SYeddyurappa announced 1800 sq ft plots to each player of Team India.
In Jaipur, Rajasthan government announced free passes to each of the players to avail of trips on Palace On Wheels.The Haryana government said it planned to honour Virender Sehwag and Ashish Nehra.
In Lucknow, the Uttar Pradesh government today announced to felicitate Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Piyush Chawla with Kanshiram International Sports award after the team's historic victory in the World Cup last night.
"By helping the Indian team in reaching the final match and making important contributions in winning the World Cup, these two players have done the state proud," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati said here.
She said that the decision to felicitate the two would not only promote Raina and Chawla to play with more dedication in the future but would also motivate other players to put in extra efforts.
