Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh yesterday said the government will not allow Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani to hold the controversial seminar as he warned separatists against any anti-national activities in the state.
"We will not allow Geelani to undertake anti-national activities in the state. We will not allow him to be successful in his designs," Singh said today while replying to questions about Geelani's proposed seminar on Sunday.
"The law will take its own course. We will not allow them to hold the seminar at all. The people like Geelani would not be allowed to do any type of anti-national activities. We will not allow them to succeed and government's stand is very clear," he said.
As per the sources, the Deputy Chief Minister talked to DGP, K Rajendra Kumar in this regard and has instructed him to ensure that any type of anti-national activity is not allowed on the soil of J&K.
Singh reiterated his stand that anti-national activities will not be tolerated at any cost.
On the issue of Geelani's house arrest, Singh clarified that he was already under house arrest for quite some time.
Replying to a question on whether permission has been sought by Geelani to hold the seminar, Singh said, "No permission has been sought from authorities in this regard."
He warned separatist groups against indulging in any kind of anti-national activity.
On the issue of the unfurling of terror outfit IS flags in the Valley, he said it is an"act of anti-nationals aimed at grabbing only media attention."
He said the separatists were playing competitive politics and indulging in propaganda. "Our resolve is firm and it is not to allow any anti-national activity on the Indian soil."
"On the issue of Masarat Alam and flagging of Pakistani flags, the Centre and the state government has firmly acted against them," he said, adding that Masarat was released on the directions of Supreme Court and the process has started during Governor rule, but when he was released it was during our government and it was formed till then.
"It was said that if you had to arrest Masarat you have to given him one week time. He again did the mistake and we immediately took action and sent him behind the bars. We have clearly said that this government will not tolerate any kind of anti-nationalism on the soil of J&K," he said.
Geelani had earlier invited panelists from different walks of life and representing different religions and institutions to participate in the seminar on June 14 in Srinagar.
