Amitabh Bachchan, on a week- long promotional shoot for Gujarat Tourism, says he is ready to devote over 100 hours of his time for the campaign if it is termed "social service".

Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been appealing to people from the state, to devote 100 hours of their time towards social service in view of Gujarat's 50th year of formation.

"Mr Modi has appealed to all, during the golden jubilee of Gujarat, to individually devote 100 hours of their time towards social service for 'Swarnim Gujarat'.

If what I am doing in the promotion of tourism in the state can be termed as social service I am happy that I shall be devoting more than a 100 hours towards this cause," Bachchan, who has been appointed as the brand ambassador of Gujarat, wrote on his blog.

Bachchan had to face criticism from Left parties and Congress, after he had agreed to promote Gujarat Tourism. Kerala had also offered him to become the brand ambassador of its tourism but the state had backed off after opposition from some of its leaders. The actor asked people not to see his decision from a political point of view, saying he has agreed to be brand ambassador of Gujarat, but not of any chief minister.

The 67-year-old actor, who began shooting from May was all praise for the beautiful locations in Gujarat.  "The region, the people, the place, the visuals...the air...grows within you. The air of Gujarat. With each breath the colours and the vibrancy fill you up with an energy that I have not experienced in the recent past," he wrote. PTI
