Patna, Aug 22: BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha today flayed the Congress leaders for throwing a gauntlet at the Gandhian leader Anna Hazare to contest polls to test his popularity and dared them to ask the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh the same question.
“Why don't the Congress leaders ask the Prime Minister to contest the elections to prove his popularity if they want Hazare to do so to test political water?” he told reporters here.
Congress MP Manish Tiwari had recently dared Hazare to contest polls to test his popularity.
Sinha, the BJP MP from Patna Saheb, also backed the civil society's demand for the Prime Minister to be brought under the ambit of the Lokpal bill and said that his view was consistent with his party's stand on the issue.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also supported the Prime Minister's inclusion in the ambit of the Lokpal bill in order to lend teeth to the proposed anti-corruption watchdog.
Flaying the Congress-led UPA government for tabling a ‘weak' Lokpal bill in Parliament earlier this month, he said that there were many shortcomings in the bill.
On the contrary, the BJP has consistenly raised the corruption issue in Parliament and outside and demanded strong measures for eradication of the vice, he said. PTI
