Mumbai: A video purportedly showing a family of five being asked to leave a PVR theatre in Kurla has gone viral on social media.
The video has triggered a heated debate with some arguing that the family was within his right of not standing during national anthem.
But a new angle to this story has emerged with an English daily claiming that the family comprising three women, a man and a child remained seated during a special short film dedicated to the martyrs of 26/11 Mumbai attack and in the background national anthem was being played.
According a report by Mumbai Mirror, “The two-minute long film aired before the film was not a conventional version of the national anthem. As it begins, actor Farhan Akhtar says in Hindi that this is a special national anthem dedicated to the heroes and martyrs of 26/11 and asks the audience to stand up.”
“It features around a hundred people involved in the 26/11 rescue operations including then joint commissioner of police (crime) Sadanand Date, chief fire officer PS Rahangdale among other police officers, NSG commandos, martyrs' families, firemen and staff of Cama Hospital,” the daily reported
"This was not just about the national anthem. People got angry because they could not even stand for two minutes for the people who sacrificed their lives for us. We are alive because of them. It took me 3 years to make this film. Can't we do this much for them?" Mirror quoted Raj Konar, who has directed the film.

The 2.40 minute video shows a family being taken to task by audiences for not standing during national anthem at a Mumbai theatre. While one person asked them if they can sit for four hours for a film, why cannot they stand for a few second for national anthem and another threatening to slap him.
