Allahabad, Sept 6 : Dr Rajiv Singh, the owner of Narayan Swarup Hospital here is an avowed Anna supporter, and on September 1, he had a critical case on his hands.
An eight-month-old baby Sapna while playing inside her house swallowed a foot-long iron rod. The rod pierced her food pipe, with nearly two-thirds lodging right up to her upper chest and one-third jutting out of her mouth.
Sapna's father Dharam Pal took the baby to at least five doctors who expressed their inability to perform such a complicated procedure.
For nearly 24 hours, the baby struggled with death, with her food pipe and upper chest bleeding. It was then that Dr Rajiv Singh appeared as her saviour.
In a seven-hour-long surgery, Dr Singh and other doctors performed a surgery on the baby's neck, and successfully extracted the iron rod.
After being put on ventilator for two days, Sapna has been shifted to the ICU ward. Dr Singh refused to take surgery expenses and even provided blood for free, said Sapna's father.
