Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil who saw 'My Name Is Khan' at a multiplex in Mumbai on Friday said that the government will ensure security to all cinemagoers, even as many theatres in Mumbai shied away from exhibiting the Shahrukh Khan starrer fearing threats by Shiv Sena.

The minister said that some theatre owners were still doubtful about the government providing security.

"Some theatre owners were doubtful whether the government will provide security. I spoke to many of them...We cannot guarantee protection for every poster of the film but to every one who comes to watch it," said Patil.

Minister of State for Home Ramesh Bagwe, who accompanied Patil for the screening, said the film has been released in 13 cinema halls.

MNIK was slated to release in 63 cinemas across the city but the release has been overshadowed by violent protests by Shiv Sena workers, whose chief Bal Thackeray has targeted Khan over his alleged 'pro-Pak' remarks.

"By noon, some multiplexes started screening the film and others are expected to do so later in the day," Bagwe said. PTI
