New Delhi, April 28: President Pranab Mukherjee has re-appointed Jammu and Kashmir Governor Narinder Nath Vohra for another term, a Rashtrapati Bhavan statement said Saturday.

"The president is pleased to appoint Narinder Nath Vohra to be the governor of Jammu and Kashmir for a fresh term on the expiry of his present term," said the statement.

Vohra was appointed governor of the troubled border state in June 2008.

Joining the Indian Adminstrative Service in 1959 from the Punjab cadre, he served in various capacities in the state and central governments.

He was the union home secretary after the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, and had served as defence secretary before that. He retired in 1994 but was recalled to service in 1997 to serve as principal secretary to then prime minister IK Gujral.

Earlier, following the India-China conflict in 1962, he was inducted into the Special Services Bureau under the Intelligence Bureau, underwent training with Britain's elite Special Air Services (SAS) and worked in the western Himalayan sector.

Post Operation Blue Star in 1984, Vohra served as the Punjab home secretary when the state was facing serious disturbances and organised a peaceful assembly poll in September 1985.

Vohra was also a central interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir before he became its governor.
