Ranchi: A truck loaded with stacks of onions overturned on Ranchi-Patna National Highway 31 near Koderma on Thursday, and hundreds of villagers swooped to the spot and looted the costly onions.
Men, women, children and the aged grabbed as many onions as they could.
Police reached the spot nearly an hour later, and by that time most of the onions had been looted.
The mishap took place when a tempo coming from Tilaiya hit the truck, and the truck overturned. The tempo driver died on the spot.
A long traffic snarl occurred on NH 31 after the mishap.
