New Delhi, Sept 11; Justice Vikramajit Sen, judge of the Delhi High Court, has been appointed Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court.
The present Chief Justice, Jagadish Singh Khehar, has been elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court, and he will be sworn in on September 13.
Justice Sen, born on December 31, 1950, was educated in Delhi and practised as a lawyer in civil, arbitration and commercial disputes. He had a special interest and consultancy on minority rights before he was made a judge of the Delhi High Court in July 1999.
He headed the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal that declared Deendar Anjuman an unlawful association in 2003 and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal that declared the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) an unlawful association in 2008 and 2010.
Justice Khehar, after practising as a lawyer for 20 years, was elevated as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1999 and became Chief Justice of the Uttarakhand High Court in November 2009. He assumed charge as Chief Justice of the Karnataka High court on August 8, 2010.
Fifty-year-old Justice Khehar has a chance to become Chief Justice of India for a short period before his retirement in August 2017. The High Court has arranged a farewell for him on Monday.
