Srinagar, Garhwal: Kamla Devi, the braveheart  who fought and killed a leopard with a sickle and axe, is still in trauma, 18 days after the horrendous incident.

The woman underwent surgery at the base hospital in Srinagar, Garhwal. Kamla Devi shivers in horror when she recounts the incident in which  the leopard suddenly attacked her on the night of August 24.

Doctors have recommended psychiatric counselling for Kamla Devi to overcome the trauma that she went through.

Fiftyfour-year-old Kamla Devi suffered deep cuts and three fractures - two on her right arm and one on the left — in the near-death encounter with the leopard.

The attack took place in the dark in Semkoti village panchayat under North Jakholi range of Rudraprayag.

A four-member team of doctors performed an operation on her arms.

The local administration and villagers have applauded Kamla Devi for her courage in singlehandedly killing the animal.

The villagers  disclosed how even after suffering fractures and deep cuts, Kamla Devi walked about a kilometre before  people came to her help.

Kamla Devi lost her husband nearly three decades ago. She looks after her family through meagre earnings from farming.

Local BJP MP Bhagat Singh Koshiyari visited the braveheart and demanded that the state government should give Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia and a job to her only son.
