Villagers who witnessed the flash flood and its aftermath told India TV team that they saw nearly 5,000 survivors coming through the hills, bang opposite their villages.
This was the only escape route available for pilgrims and others to survive flash floods in the Mandakini river.
Villagers said, they saw nearly 2,500 dead bodies on the hilly terrain. "After the June 16 midnight horror, we ventured out of our village on June 18, two days later to help the survivors, as our village itself was devastated", said one villager.
Toshi village is prone to flash floods, which occur frequently, and that's when the villagers leave their homes to take shelter in a school building.
The villagers have run out of food as most of the roads are blocked, and food supply has come to a halt. Not a single state government official has so far reached this village and offered relief.
