New Delhi/Dehradun, July 4 : Tomatoes are selling Rs 100 a kilogram in the national capital, with retailers attributing the hike due to poor transport services following Uttarakhand flash flood.
The floods that ravaged large parts of Haryana, Punjab and Uttarakhand two weeks ago have led to spurt in prices of all vegetables.
Capsicum is selling Rs 100 a kg in east Delhi, and potatoes and onions are being retailed at Rs 60 and Rs 30 a kg respectively in South Delhi.
Though retailers blamed the bad weather, wholesale agents at Azadpur sabzi mandi, Asia's biggest wholesale vegetable market, said retailers are profiteering citing wrong resons.
Retailers say, the supply of tomatoes, onion and potatoes has declined in the past two weeks due to bad weather, but wholesale agents say, the retailers themselves are hiking prices to pack a neat profit.
"Retailers are pocketing the profits", one wholesaler agent said in Azadpur sabzi mandi.
The current retail prices of vegetables in Delhi are as under: Tomatoes from Rs 70 to Rs 100 (depending on the type of localities), Onion Rs 28 to Rs 30, Potato Rs 18 to Rs 30, Cauliflower Rs 45 to Rs 60 , Lady's finger Rs 30 to Rs 50, Cucumber Rs 40 to Rs 50.
