New Delhi: Delhi Police has prohibited use of laser and high beam lights in the vicinity of IGI Airport at night saying this can distract pilots of descending flights which may lead to a major disaster.

There are a number of farm houses, marriage gardens and banquet halls and use of such lights is a common practice during marriage processions.

A meeting was held between airport authorities and Delhi Police regarding this growing menace following which it was decided to prohibit use of these lights in the area, police said.

“When an aircraft is descending to land at the airport, especially during night time, the pilot has to clearly see the runway so as to make a smooth landing.

These lights may distract the pilot at this crucial juncture and lead to an aviation disaster. Keeping that in mind, we have prohibited use of such lights,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport Security) M I Haider.

The danger was same for flights descending from Vasant Kunj side and that from Dwarka side. Anybody violating this prohibition order will have to face legal action, police said.
